Connect your own domain

When to use this

Use this guide to put the links you send to clients on your own web address — proposals.your-studio.com instead of app.bloomboard.io. It takes a few minutes in BloomBoard and one visit to wherever you manage your domain’s DNS (your registrar).

What you need first

The Studio plan, with custom branding set up (start here if you haven’t).
Access to your domain’s DNS settings — usually your registrar account (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, 123-reg, Wix, Squarespace, and so on).
A subdomain to use. proposals.your-studio.com is the usual choice. Your bare domain (your-studio.com) can’t be connected — most registrars don’t support the required record type there, and your main website already lives on it.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Choose your subdomain

Go to Settings → Branding → What clients see, find Your domain, and type the subdomain. If your business website is set in your brand kit, a matching suggestion is prefilled. Choose Connect.

Copy the two DNS records

The card now shows status Awaiting DNS and exactly two records to add, each with a copy button:

a CNAME for your subdomain, pointing at BloomBoard
a TXT record named _cf-custom-hostname. followed by your subdomain, which proves the domain is yours

Copy each name and value exactly as shown — no extra spaces, nothing added.

Add them at your registrar

In your registrar’s DNS settings, create both records. Pointers for common registrars:

GoDaddy — DNS → Records → Add. For the CNAME, “Name” is just the subdomain part (for example proposals), “Value” is the copied target.
Cloudflare — DNS → Records → Add record. Set the proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud, not orange). A proxied record hides your domain from the checks and it will never verify.
123-reg — Manage DNS → Advanced DNS → Add. Same shape: hostname, type, target.
Wix / Squarespace — if your domain is managed there, look for “Advanced DNS” or “Custom records” under domain settings. Add both records there; you don’t need to touch your website settings.

If your registrar asks for a TTL, the default is fine.

Come back and check

BloomBoard checks automatically every few minutes, or press Check again on the card. The status moves Awaiting DNS → Verifying → Live. DNS changes usually land within minutes; once they do, the secure certificate is issued in about a minute or two.

Send something

Once the status is Live, every new link you send — proposals, invoices, briefs, enquiry pages — is built on your address. Links you sent before keep working and now open pages wearing your branding.

What happens next

Keep both DNS records published. They’re what routes your clients to their pages. The records disappear from the card once you’re live — that’s normal, the job is done — but don’t delete them at your registrar.
Replacing your address later is safe: connect the new one, and the old one keeps serving every link already in a client’s inbox while the new address takes over new links.
Disconnecting returns new links to app.bloomboard.io.
